Description
The 3-day Acute Paediatric PoCUS Course combines evidence-based lectures with extensive hands-on scanning to develop both technical and interpretive skills in paediatric ultrasound. Participants will gain confidence in image acquisition, recognition of paediatric anatomy and pathology, and application of PoCUS to acute clinical scenarios.
This practical course covers a range of emergency and procedural applications—including free fluid assessment, vascular access, and nerve blocks—supported by scanning sessions with real paediatric models and ultrasound phantoms. Clinical integration, case discussions, and structured educator feedback through image review help participants refine their scanning technique and apply ultrasound findings effectively in paediatric emergencies, intensive care, and in-hospital practice.

Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the physics and principles of ultrasound in paediatric practice.
- Perform and interpret core scans, including lung, FAST, MSK, and KUB.
- Recognise key paediatric anatomical and pathological features.
- Safely demonstrate ultrasound-guided procedural techniques such as vascular access, bladder aspiration, lumbar puncture, nerve blocks, and joint aspiration.
- Integrate PoCUS findings into clinical decision-making for acute paediatric conditions.
- Develop confidence and practical skills through guided scanning practice and structured feedback.
Certificate
- This course is not credentialed and does not form part of the AIU and NUS credentialing pathway.
- Students will receive a ‘Statement of Attendance’ from AIU Singapore upon completion of this course.
Prerequisites
- This course is open to Singaporean and international medical professionals with an interest in paediatric and point-of-care ultrasound.
- No previous ultrasound experience is necessary.
